Harry R. "Bob" Parsons, 1926 - 2011

Bob Parsons, a veteran of Able Company who was wounded in action on Iwo Jima, passed away March 24, 2011.

Joe Rosenberger writes: "
A Jap knee mortar round landed about a foot and a half from his head and blinded him in the right eye and shattered his jaw. He later passed out and woke up on a medical ship surrounded by the pretties “angels” (nurses) he ever saw, until he reached down to his pockets and two grenades fell on the floor and emptied out the room. They didn’t know how to use penicillin correctly and gave him too much for too long a period and about killed him. It wrecked his intestinal functions, which he suffered the rest of his life."

Mr. Parsons survived his ordeal, and went on to become a respected history and social studies teacher. Please click here for his obituary.

Mr. Rosenberger provided these pictures of Bob Parsons' memorial service in Fort Sumner Cemetery, New Mexico. (Click for full size.)
