Wartime

Age 22 or 23, conducting a mail call.

This photograph is courtesy of George Smith, who enlisted in A Company at the age of 17. George went to the Marshalls and Saipan with Phil's weapons platoon, and by the age of 19 was an accomplished veteran.

He was seriously wounded on Saipan, but survived and now lives in New Jersey. He is still teaching boating safety classes for the Coast Guard Auxiliary.

Unfortunately, I don't know who the other guys in the picture are.
