At This Point:

I am going to try to start doing a This Day In Company History feature. Generally, it'll be a broad overview of what the Regiment / Division was up to, as that is most often recorded, but if more details are available at the Battalion or Company level, those will be added with as much detail as possible.

This particular day isn't of any special note. The 4th Marine Division, as part of the Northern Attack Force, Group One, embarked on their transports to Saipan on May 29th, and were en route to Eniwetok Lagoon, the staging area for the assault itself. The 23rd and 25th Marines would hit beaches codenamed Blue and Yellow, respectively, while the 24th was slated to take part in a diversionary maneuver near Tanapag Harbor (along with the 2nd and 1/29th Marines of the 2nd Marine Division).

While on the transports, the name of the target was finally revealed to the Marines, and each individual was instructed as to the part he would play in the coming attack. Instructive schools were held and maps and photographs were provided to all units, until everyone knew his role backward and forward.
